3) Create a Season

  • Open the drawer menu and select Seasons
  • Tap the add button
  • Enter the season name and date range
  • Tap Add

  1. Select a goalie from the home screen
  2. Tap the add button to start a new game
  3. Fill in the game info:
  • Select Your Team (dropdown)
  • Select Your Season (dropdown)
  • Select Your Tournament (dropdown, optional)
  • Enter Opponent Team Name
  • Select Game Date
  • Select a Settings Profile (auto-selected, but you can override)

Tap Start Game

Tip: Tap the add button next to Tournament to create a new tournament.

Settings Profiles let you control how stats are calculated and how maps are displayed, and apply those settings consistently across different leagues and teams.

What a Settings Profile controls

  • GAA rate minutes (example: 60-minute GAA vs 36-minute GAA)
  • Ice Zone tracking toggles (enable ice zone prompts for goals and/or saves)
  • Zone map color preset (Net Shot Map / Ice Zone Map colors)

The hierarchy (what “wins”)

  1. Game profile (selected for an individual game)
  2. Team profile (applies when viewing/filtering that team)
  3. Goalie profile (default for the goalie)
  4. Default profile (fallback)

The Default profile

  • The app always maintains a Default profile
  • It can’t be renamed or deleted, but you can still edit its settings

How to create or edit profiles

  1. Open the main menu
  2. Go to Advanced Settings
  3. Tap Settings Profiles
  4. Use Add to create a new profile, or tap an existing profile to edit it

Assigning profiles

  • Goalie: goalies list → goalie menu Edit → choose Settings Profile
  • Team: Teams screen → team menu Edit → choose Settings Profile
  • Game: new game auto-selects (team → goalie → default), but you can override; you can also change a game’s profile later by editing Game Details
GAA calculation note: By default, GAA uses the profile’s GAA rate minutes. If Use Simple GAA Calculation is enabled in Advanced Settings, it overrides profiles.

This guide explains how to track shots and goals during a game.

Starting a New Game

  1. Select a goalie from the home screen
  2. Tap the add button to start a new game
  3. Fill in the game information:
  • Select Your Team (dropdown)
  • Select Your Season (dropdown)
  • Select Your Tournament (dropdown, optional)
  • Enter Opponent Team Name
  • Select Game Date
  • Select a Settings Profile (auto-selected, but you can override)

Tap “Start Game”

Note: Tap the add button next to Tournament to add a new tournament.

During Game Tracking

  • The screen is divided into save zones (top) and goal zones (bottom)
  • Tap the + and - controls on the zone where the save or goal happened
  • For goals, a dialog appears asking for goal attributes
  • If Ice Zone tracking is enabled by your Settings Profile, you’ll be prompted to select an on-ice zone for saves and/or goals (these can be enabled independently)
  • Use Do Not Touch to temporarily pause tracking; tap Touch to resume
  • The scoreboard at the top shows live tracking info, including the current period and your running shot/save stats
  • Each shot is automatically recorded with the current period, so Game Summary and Filter Stats can show per-period breakdowns later

Finishing the Game

  1. When the game is over, tap the check mark icon
  2. Enter the final score (your team’s goals and opponent’s goals)
  3. If you are using profile-based GAA (and Use Simple GAA Calculation is OFF), you may be prompted for minutes played per period
  4. Add any game notes you want to remember
  5. Hit Save
  6. If the game ended in a tie, you’ll be prompted to either End as Tie or Go to Shootout

Note: The app snapshots the Ice Zone settings used during the game so maps render consistently later, even if you change settings afterward.

Goal attributes provide context about how goals were scored, helping identify patterns and areas for improvement.

Available goal attributes

  • Rebound — shot off a rebound or loose puck
  • Breakaway — 1-on-1 with no defensemen back
  • Short Handed — goal while team is down a player
  • Tip/Deflection — shot redirected by stick or body
  • Screened — vision blocked by player in front
  • Royal Road Pass — shot after a pass across center ice, down low, forcing a quick move
  • Wrap-Around — attacker skates around the net to score from behind
  • Back Door — pass to attacker behind the goalie at the open side of the net
  • One-Timer — shot directly off a pass
  • Odd Man Rush — attackers outnumber defenders (2-on-1, 3-on-2)
  • 6-on-5 — goal scored with the goalie pulled
  • Michigan — attacker lifts the puck using the stick and throws it in the net
  • Penalty Shot — 1-on-1 opportunity after a violation

How to add attributes

  1. When you mark a shot as a goal during game tracking, a dialog appears
  2. Check all applicable attributes (you can select multiple, or none)
  3. Tap Save

Attributes appear in Game Summary and are also used for High-Danger Goals Against analysis.

The Game Summary provides a complete overview of your goalie’s performance in a specific game.

Game Summary sections

  • Game Header: opponent, date, and which Settings Profile was used
  • Game Notes: any notes you recorded (if entered)
  • Game Summary: compact stats + (when available) a period filter for per-period breakdowns
  • Goal Details: each goal with its period (when tracked), location, and attributes
  • Shot Maps: Net Shot Map + Ice Zone Map (when enabled/available)

Compact stats can include

  • SOG: shots on goal faced
  • Svs: total saves made
  • GA: total goals allowed
  • Sv%: save percentage
  • Min: minutes played (when available)

Period filter (when available)

If the game includes period tracking, you can use the period filter to view stats, goals, and maps for a specific period (including overtime periods).

Shootouts

If the game included a shootout, the summary shows shootout results by round, a shootout-specific save percentage, a shootout shot map, and shootout goal details in a separate section.

The Shot Map (also called Net Zone Map) visually represents where shots and goals occurred during a game.

Shot Map layout

  • The map divides the net into 6 zones (left/right high, chest high, left/right low, five hole)
  • Left/right labels adapt based on the goalie’s glove side

Reading the map

  • The number in each zone shows how many shots were faced in that area (saves + goals)
  • Zone save percentage is displayed
  • Lower save% zones can highlight areas to work on

Color coding

  • Green: high save percentage
  • Yellow: medium save percentage
  • Red: low save percentage

Tip: Color thresholds come from the Settings Profile’s Zone Map color preset.

The Ice Zone Map shows where shots originated on the ice surface and summarizes performance by on‑ice zones.

Enabling the feature

  • Advanced Settings Settings Profiles
  • Edit the profile you want (or Default)
  • Toggle Enable Ice Zone for Goals and/or Enable Ice Zone for Saves
  • You can enable them independently

How it works during tracking

  • When enabled, recording a save or a goal prompts you to select an on‑ice zone
  • The app records which settings were enabled so Game Summary preserves what was enabled at the time of play

Reading the map

  • Switch between goals, saves, and save%
  • Colors use the same thresholds as the Net Shot Map (customizable via presets)

The Shot Map uses color coding to help you quickly identify areas of strength and weakness. You can customize the color thresholds to match your preferences or league standards.

Default color coding

  • Green: 90%+ save percentage
  • Yellow: 75–89% save percentage
  • Red: below 75% save percentage

How to customize thresholds

  1. Open the main menu
  2. Select Advanced Settings
  3. Scroll to Zone Map Settings
  4. Choose a built-in preset or use sliders to set custom thresholds
  5. Optionally save your custom thresholds as a preset

Applying a preset (Settings Profiles)

  1. Advanced Settings → Settings Profiles
  2. Edit the profile you want (or Default)
  3. Pick the Zone Map Color Preset for that profile

No. My Goalie Stats is a one-time purchase of $19.99 with no subscriptions, no ads, and no hidden costs.

We know being a goalie parent isn't cheap. Between equipment, season fees, and constant training, families invest thousands every year. And let's be honest, most of us have dropped $20 on skate laces or tape without thinking twice.

For the same price, My Goalie Stats gives you a simple, professional-grade tool to track your goalie's performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and focus your training where it matters most. It helps you make the most of your time and money at the rink.

Yes, there are free apps out there, but they are often complicated, incomplete, or poorly maintained. Most disappear after a season or two because it takes time, effort, and money to keep tools like this alive. Free simply isn't sustainable.

Goalie stats tracking is a niche market. Big corporations are not building tools like this. It falls to tech-minded people like me, a fellow goalie parent, to create them.

Your $19.99 directly supports the continued development of this app so it can stay simple, reliable, and focused on helping goalies like yours.

Yes! My Goalie Stats provides comprehensive export and backup capabilities.

Export Options:

  • CSV Export - Export game data in spreadsheet format for analysis in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Database Backup - Complete backup of all data in JSON or database format
  • Game Summary Sharing - Share individual game summaries with coaches and scouts

Filtering Before Export:

  • Filter by season, team, or tournament before exporting
  • Export only the specific games you want to share

What Gets Exported:

  • Game information (date, opponent, score, game notes)
  • Shot-by-shot data with locations and timestamps
  • Goal attributes and details
  • Shootout results (if applicable)
  • Zone performance data

CSV files can be opened in any spreadsheet program for custom analysis, charts, and coaching reports.

This isn't some big corporate project. I'm just a dad who wanted to track my son's goalie statistics, but couldn't find a good Android-based goalie stats tracker that met our needs.

So I decided to build the tool we needed. What started as a simple way to track saves and goals against has grown into a comprehensive statistics platform that helps goalies and their families monitor performance and improvement over time.

Every feature in this app comes from real experience on the ice and in the stands. It's built by a hockey family, for hockey families.
